V&A announces new video games residency, Video Games: Design / Play / Disrupt.

In light of the London Video Games Festival taking place, the V&A Museum have announced they will be hosting an exhibition dedicated to video games. Video Games: Design/Play/Disrupt, will open later this year.

The exhibition will focus on the ground-breaking design and creative behind some of the industries most beloved video games since the mid-2000s, such as Cardboard Computer’s Kentucky Route Zero (2013) and Nintendo’s Splatoon (2015).

Video games are a revolutionary business, the industry generated a record £3.35bn last year in the UK alone. Since the mid noughties, technological advancements have dramatically altered video games.

Curated by Kristian Volsing and Marie Foulston, the exhibition will offer insight into the design process, highlighting the intersection between technology, production, and inspiration within contemporary culture.

Video Games: Design/Play/Disrupt will delve into the complexity of gaming and explore how video games have pushed boundaries, addressing social and political subject matters such as gender, sexuality and race.

Exploring the link between games and art, the V&A exhibition looks to build on the continuing interest around video games, with a significant push on design, culture and technology.

Video Games: Design / Play /Disrupt will run from September 8th 2018 to February 24th 2019 at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
